Description
An unusual map of Sumatra and the southern part of the Malay peninsula, with Singapore shown as 'Cingatole'. On the right is a text box linking Sumatra with the mythical island of Taprobana and a large vignettte of a man riding an elephant.
Originally Sri Lanka was accepted as the island known to the Romans as Taprobana, but later cartographers then switched to Sumatra.
