Description
A chart of the currents in the Staits of Gibraltar, published in the Political Magazine during the American War of Independence. At the time a combined Spanish and French fleet was blockading Gibraltar ('The Great Siege', 1779-83) and the British had just lost Minorca, their main naval base in the Mediterranean, so knowing the correct passage through the straits was essential.
Condition:
Trimmed to printed border on right, new margin added, binding folds flattened with repairs.Related products
