Description
A bird's-eye view of Mantova, based on Braun & Hogenberg, but updated to show the siege by Emperor Ferdiand II's army of German mercenaries (Landsknecht), during the War of the Mantovan Succession (1628-31). The result was a double blow for the city: bubonic plague brought by the soldiers and a three-day sacking.
