Description

A prospect of Demonte, with the Forte Madonna della Consolata, built in 1590 to defend the Colle Fauniera pass from incursion by the French. The map was drawn by Juvenal Boetto in 1666 and published in the fifth and last volume of Johannes Blaeu's Townbooks of Italy, 'Sabaudia Velocis Justitiae et Mavortiae Virtutis Antiqua Sedes', published after his death. Later editions were published by Moetjens, Mortier & Alberts. The colour is particularly fine, with the armorial accentuated with gold.
