Description

A map of northern Italy, published to illustrate news reports about the Second War of Independence, 1859, with the Kingdom of Sardinia allied with the France of Napoleon III against the Austrian Empire. The war was short and inconclusive, as both France and Austria had reasons to call it off. Wyld published a similar but smaller map for the First War of Independence, 1848: this map is larger and has the names of the various states and railways overprinted.

Condition:

Ownership inscription, 'Captain Acton, Dublin 20th May 1859', on front pastedown.
