Description

A early printing of Piranesi's 'view of the Piazza Navona on the ruins of the Circus Agonalis', the stadium built by Domitian. It looks north from the 'Fontana del Moro', past Bernini's 'Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi' to the 'Fontana del Nettuno'. To the west is the cupola of the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone. Piranesi etched this plate in 1773: this example was published in his lifetime, as it lacks the plate number added after his death.

Condition:

With central fold, as usual, remargined on all sides.
