Description

A frontispiece from 'Peregrinus In Jerusalem', the account of the 1718 journey of German monk Angelicus Maria Myller from Rome to Jerusalem then on to Troy, Gallipoli, Constantinople, Syria then back to Rome via Malta. This plate is a summary: it shows Myller riding a donkey into Egypt, with a bird's-eye view of the eastern Mediterranean behind, marking 'Caromania' (Turkey), Syria and Cyprus. 'Terraque Marique' roughly means 'by land sea'.
