Description

A colourful map of Central London, illustrated with vignettes of historical events and quotes about London from writers including Pepys, Stow, Goldsmith and Defoe. At the top of the map are the Arms of the City of London with the arms of the 110 Livery Companies spread around the sides. Underneath are the arms of the Metropolitan Boroughs, abolished in 1965 with the creation of 'Great London'. George Leslie Bullock (1895-1971), a Scottish civil servant, produced a number of pictorial maps, beginning with a plan of Glasgow in 1937. This map of London was his last, appearing in 1969, two years before his death.
